Amplify Memphis is a three-week, full-day, pilot program for high school students who wish to take an active role in improving the quality of life in Memphis. Upon completion of the course, students will receive a semester course credit on their transcript. Learning will be active and experiential, focusing on civic engagement, exploring dynamic neighborhoods, and interacting with Memphians who both serve and who have unmet needs. Through targeted readings, students will examine a range of models for building urban ecosystems where communities, through the interplay between populations and their environment, thrive. In the true spirit of entrepreneurial citizenship, students will engage in the process of experiential design, with collaborative groups ideating and prototyping their own innovative solutions. There may be an opportunity for the cohort to have a portion of the course include overnight residence at an SGIS facility in Memphis. The fee includes transportation and materials costs. Students should bring a bagged lunch or money to buy lunch each day.
